Smog chamber study

I have been using smog chamber to study the aerosol transformation. VOC precursors are injected to the chamber. Atmospheric oxidants can initiate the oxidation of VOCs to form secondary organic aerosols (SOA). The gas phase compounds can be monitored by NOx meter, ozone meter and GC-FID. The dynmaic particle growth can be monitored by SEMS. The organic products can be detected by an online FIGAERO-HRTof-CIMS. Aerosols can also be collected by filter and applied for offline tests, such as GC/MS, chemical assays (DNPH assay), and cell exposure.

Increasing levels of complexity involved in (1) the oxidative potential (OP) measurement of PM, (2) the quantification of oxidative stress in cells in vitro, and (3) PM exposure and epidemiological studies on the adverse health effects of PM.
